Is there a relation between magneto-crystalline anisotropy and the orbital moment?
A spin-reorientation from in-plane to out-of-plane occurs when the magneto-crystalline anisotropy favors an out-of-plane magnetization and is large enough to overcome the shape anisotropy. The magneto-crystalline anisotropy and hence the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is given by the anisotropy in the spin-orbit energy, ΔESO.
P. Bruno showed that it is possible to derive a linear relationship between the orbital moment anisotropy and the magneto-crystalline anisotropy.
